THE STORY OF BOB ASHMUN
A portrait session should be an enjoyable experience that captures the individuals personality, the essence of who they are. Bob understands that creating a fun, relaxed environment helps make this happen. Using his experience with the time of day for location sessions, his extensive knowledge in the ways of nature with his beach sessions, the technologies of photography and contemporary life-style posing are all important elements involved in the creation of a successful portrait session. Every assignment is approached as a unique opportunity to create a complimenting memory of that person or family for generations to come.
The studio originated in 1983 as the Brass Shutter Studio in Caro MI, Ashmun Portrait Art was created in 2006 in Traverse City, since relocated to Glen Arbor. Location work at the family home or cottage is the norm and many choose to be photographed at one of the beautiful beaches of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Pictures of high school seniors are often done in the studio, at a location such as the Port Oneida Historic Farm District and at the beach so that many different "looks" are available for their selection.
His talent and ability to create images outside of the norm is constantly being proven with his images of families and high school seniors. Bob maintains a contemporary style that is truly his own.
A lifelong member of the Professional Photographers of America and having earned the degrees of Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman through the association. He is a strong advocate of continuing education to keep in tune with the changes in the portrait industry and has taught his style and technique of photographing families and high school seniors to other professionals at national seminars for many years and has hosted workshops in Sedona Arizona and locally and published a book of technique to help his students with off-camera flash and building inexpensive backgrounds.
